Timeless
Wine box, acrylic
Timeless. Created by John Black
In Timeless, John Black reimagines the language of luxury through the union of fine
wine and contemporary art. Conceived as the visual embodiment of the Château
Lafite Rothschild legacy, the project transforms the wine box into an object of
reflection, a vessel of memory, and a collector’s piece in its own right.
The design centers on two symbolic florals: eight peonies, emblematic of grandeur,
nobility, and enduring beauty, each corresponding to one of the eight bottles
contained within the box; and one hundred violets, chosen for their deep association
with Château Lafite Rothschild’s sensory profile, as well as their metaphorical link to
the perfect score — a mark of absolute excellence. Together, the violets and peonies
form a floral constellation: abundance and rarity, subtlety and power, time and
permanence.
True to his practice, Black integrates his signature materials and interventions:
transparent acrylic engraved with delicate motifs, and gilded surfaces that shimmer
between tradition and innovation. These details fracture and refract the classical codes
of winemaking, offering instead a contemporary vision where heritage is not
preserved in glass alone but reframed as an artwork.
The collaboration underscores the exclusivity of the project. Each Timeless edition
exists not merely as a container for extraordinary wine but as an encounter with
contemporary art. Alongside printed editions, select boxes will be hand-painted by
the artist, transforming every piece into a unique artifact. Each collector will also
receive a giclée of John Black’s original work, extending the experience from
viticulture into the realm of art collecting.
With Timeless, the ritual of opening a bottle becomes inseparable from the act of
unveiling an artwork — a celebration not just of wine, but of cultural memory,
innovation, and beauty that endures beyond time.
The Dipper
Series: Collaborations
Triptych, acrylic and oil on canvas with fluorescent laser-cut acrylic overlay
108 × 48 in
2025
In The Dipper, John Black transforms a corporate commission into a poetic dialogue between nature, technology, and the human spirit. Created for the innovative IT startup Depper — whose name means “bird” — the work captures a delicate balance between organic intuition and digital precision.
At the center of the triptych, the bird perches among peonies, symbols of prosperity, renewal, and the flourishing of creative energy. These lush blossoms evoke both the fragility and power of growth — a visual metaphor for innovation blooming within structure.
The fluorescent acrylic overlay, laser-cut in the shape of the company’s logo, radiates a vivid, futuristic light — merging the language of technology with the lyricism of painting. Through this piece, Black redefines the idea of collaboration: art and business intertwine, each enriching the other, bringing creativity deeper (deeper – depper) into the world of ideas and progress.
